A family knitting legacy.
In 2007, Wu Chaoyi inherited three hand-operated flat knitting machines from his father — a veteran of Dongguan's textile boom in the 1980s. With a team of seven, he set up a small workshop on the ground floor of his home.
The early years were hard. Wu Chaoyi drove deliveries himself, slept on the cutting table, and hand-linked every seam of the first ten thousand sweaters. But word spread — a small Chinese workshop producing European quality at Asian prices.
From workshop to manufacturer.
By 2012, YL knit had grown to 120 employees and moved into a purpose-built factory. We invested in Shima Seiki and Stoll computerized flat knitting machines, capable of producing everything from 3-gauge chunky knits to 18-gauge ultra-fine knits.
The breakthrough came with a 500-piece cashmere crewneck trial order from a Paris fashion brand. They became our first international client — and our longest-standing partner. Today 90% of our output is sold to Europe, North America and Japan.

Today, YL knit operates 8 factories in Guangdong — from yarn sourcing and dyeing to knitting, linking, washing and finishing. Our 600-strong team includes 15 in-house designers who can turn your mood board into a production-ready tech pack.
